Y-Brush: The Precision Behind a Patented Innovation

Mirko Calamante

Head of Growth @ ZonWizard

Y-Brush is a French brand founded ten years ago with an international ambition: to reinvent one of the most everyday gestures there is, brushing your teeth. Behind it lies a patented technology and a factory of its own, a journey that started with a Kickstarter campaign and led, in October 2025, to acquisition by a major European group in the dental sector. We spoke with Benjamin Cohen, founder of the brand, about his journey and the role ZonWizard played when the accuracy of the numbers became essential for the company.

Interview with the founder of Y-Brush

Benjamin, tell us: who are you and what do you sell?

I'm Benjamin, founder and former CEO of Y-Brush, a brand founded ten years ago in France but with an international ambition from the very beginning. We developed a technology capable of cleaning your teeth in ten seconds per arch, twenty seconds in total: ten for the upper arch and ten for the lower one.

The heart of the product is a very flexible mouthpiece coated with bristles, the same ones you find on a traditional toothbrush. The mouthpiece adapts to the jaw and brushes all the teeth at once, on every side. Then there is a handle with sonic vibrations. It is not a "generic" product: it is our product, we make it ourselves, from start to finish.

It is a project we invest heavily in, on marketing but above all on production, which is extremely complex. There are patents and a great deal of research and development behind it.

A product like this needs concrete proof.

Yes, and we looked for it from the very beginning. Clinical studies show that in one minute Y-Brush removes the same amount of plaque that a Philips Sonicare removes in two minutes, and it was tested on 110 patients in a 30-day study. Twenty seconds with Y-Brush are equivalent to about three minutes of brushing with a manual toothbrush. We use 35,000 bristles in soft nylon, not silicone tips: on silicone the studies are clear, it does not remove plaque. For a product that wants to become part of people's daily routine, being able to demonstrate all of this is essential.

How did you get here? From Kickstarter to acquisition.

After the first two or three years of research and development we launched a campaign on Kickstarter, a crowdfunding platform, and we raised about 200,000 dollars. About a year later we launched the product, mainly in France and the United States.

After Kickstarter you usually build a website, and that is what we did. In 2021 we joined Amazon. Then some store chains in France reached out to us, such as Fnac Darty, where we are still present today. We sell in Europe and the United States, and in the past we were also in Japan.

The turning point came in October 2025: we were acquired by a major group, a leader in France and in some European countries in dental implants, a company with about 250 million dollars in annual revenue. I stayed on, with my team, to manage this product line.

The biggest challenge for Y-Brush: providing reliable numbers

What was the problem before ZonWizard?

One of our main challenges, even before the acquisition, was being able to tell our accountant what the sales on Amazon were month by month, in order to calculate the correct VAT to pay to the French State or, through the OSS, for the other European countries.

Our process was simple: we extracted a sales report from Amazon Seller Central. But it was not accurate at all, because of refunds and certain fees. It was fine as long as it was fine. The point is that we are on multiple marketplaces, in Europe, in the United States, and once in Japan: that work had to be done marketplace by marketplace, month by month. An enormous amount of time, for a result that in the end still was not accurate.

Pick and pack operations in the warehouse

How much time did it take up?

Before, it took about half a day of an administrative person, and even that was not enough. Even spending an extra day a month, we could not cross-reference all the data to get the right numbers. There are too many parameters. With Seller Central it is also easy to get confused: if you look at the app or look at the reports you get different figures, and they have created a thousand different reports.

When we were acquired we needed a much higher level of quality, and that is when we started using ZonWizard. Thanks to the Accounting Tool we now have an accurate report, month by month, with the exact sales and therefore the exact VAT to pass on to the finance department. For us it was a step change, above all in terms of accuracy.

With ZonWizard: the exact VAT report, month by month

In a few minutes I have the exact sales and the exact VAT, for the French State and for the OSS, ready for the finance department.

The same language, the same numbers for the whole team

What changed in your teamwork?

Before, I used the Amazon app and a colleague of mine used the reports: when he said "we did X", I replied "no, we did Y". When you work as a team it is essential to have the same language and the same value. Now I know that everyone is looking at the same app, with the same level of information. It may seem like a detail, but for a team it changes everything.

Recovering money from Amazon with Refunds

Do you also use ZonWizard for anything else?

Yes, for Refunds, the claims against Amazon. When Amazon owes you money, for example because it lost a parcel, with ZonWizard we can open the claim and recover it. We implemented it a few weeks ago with the administrative team. It is something we did not do at all before: Amazon can owe you quite a lot of money without you knowing it, and here in a few steps you see whether there is anything to claim back.

What I appreciate most is that I can follow the case I opened and see where it stands. For me it has become indispensable.

Showing the numbers: profit and Financial Report

And on the profit side?

Someone on my team analyzes profits at least once a month, product by product and marketplace by marketplace. With the Profit Table and the Financial Report we line up sales, costs, profit, net profit and the percentages by month and by year. In our case, where we have to report the numbers to the group, having everything in a single section is very useful.

The future of Y-Brush

What are the next steps?

I sold the company to the group in October, but I am still on board managing the division for this product line. The idea is to grow the business unit with new products. This means we will need a tool that works well with many products: until now we managed about twenty, roughly fifteen on Amazon and twenty-five to thirty on Shopify, in addition to the physical stores.

With more references and more channels, being able to count on exact numbers and on a single source for the whole team is exactly what we need to grow in an orderly way. We started from data done by hand and never truly accurate, and we ended up with the numbers under control: it is the foundation on which to build growth.

Thank you Y-Brush

Thank you Benjamin, for your time and for sharing your story with us.

Thank you. For a company as structured as ours, you need an equally solid tool, and over these years ZonWizard has proven to be a reliable support. We will continue to count on you in the growth phases that lie ahead.
